9th Message - [Action; Hall of Mirrors]

[In the crowded hallways of Versailles, a solitary (and extremely pink) figure is standing against the wall, fanning herself delicately. Somewhat uncharacteristically to most of the people roaming the hall, she is grinning from ear to ear.

Dulcine DesRosiers, Baronne du Fontette (pop. roughly in the 200 mark), former milliner's assistant and current mistress to the Duc du Polingac, has been in Versaille for roughly two months by now.

She is still not managing to entirely fit in.

Although she has certainly been enjoying herself.]

Bonjour!

[ooc: Yep, Dulcie is cursed and trolling! Anybody you wants to stop by and be inappropriated at by a social climber, please go for it. And yes, this being 18th France, she's still managed to have pink hair.]

[Hope she sticks around after sundown, because that's when a dark, mysterious stranger in a mask is roaming the halls. Said stranger tilts his hat to the young lady like the gentleman that he is.]

[Lord Myrnin catches sight of the fetching, pink figure as he's making his way around the dance floor. When he chooses to take a break from dancing, he takes refuge in Dulcine's hallway. He greets her with a wicked grin and a proper bow]

Mademoiselle, it is a crime I've yet to meet so lovely a lady. I am Lord Myrnin.

Dulcine DesRosiers. I'm the Baronne du Fontette.

[It's still such a thrill for Dulcine to use her title, so she tries to drop it into conversation as much as possible. Who cares that it was basically bought for her?]

[Oh he has heard of you.]

It is a pleasure to meet you, Baronne.

Have you been long in Court, my lord?

[identity profile] trapdoor-spider.livejournal.com 2011-05-23 07:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I was born in court. [He sounds rather bored by the whole idea really.] Yourself?

[identity profile] dulcisnuntius.livejournal.com 2011-05-23 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh, that must have been exciting. I've been at court about two months now. I came right after my marriage to the Baron du Fontette.

[identity profile] trapdoor-spider.livejournal.com 2011-05-24 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
I suppose so. I know the Baron. Horrible man. I'm not sure what you see in him. [It's said with a bit of a joking tone but Myrnin is entirely serious]

[identity profile] dulcisnuntius.livejournal.com 2011-05-24 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
I think I saw a title and an entrance to Court.

[Dulcine has no qualms about her role as social climber. It took her a lot of work to get where she is, and she isn't afraid of letting people know where she started out.]

Besides, he has to stay in the Barony, you know. It's very important to make the land and and household is being taken care of.

[identity profile] trapdoor-spider.livejournal.com 2011-05-24 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
[Myrnin chuckles. He appreciates her honesty about the whole thing.] And what was so terribly tempting about our company here?

[identity profile] dulcisnuntius.livejournal.com 2011-05-24 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
Someone I care about lives here.

Besides, have you seen the clothes? And the CHAMPAGNE? I don't think I've been completely sober for more than five minutes since arriving here.

[identity profile] trapdoor-spider.livejournal.com 2011-05-24 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
You have an excellent point. Might I inquire who lives here?

[identity profile] dulcisnuntius.livejournal.com 2011-05-24 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
The Duc du Polignac. I'm sure you've met him.

[There is a proud note in Dulcine's voice. Hey, if you're going to be a mistress, it better be for someone good.]

[identity profile] trapdoor-spider.livejournal.com 2011-05-24 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
Indeed I have. [She does have a point.] He couldn't hire you as a lady in waiting for his wife?

[identity profile] dulcisnuntius.livejournal.com 2011-05-24 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
Then I would be a lady in waiting. Instead I have my own land, my own title, and no one can kick me out if he gets tired of me.

[identity profile] trapdoor-spider.livejournal.com 2011-05-24 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
[Well that makes the Baroness infinitely more interesting.] So you didn't do it merely for love.

[identity profile] dulcisnuntius.livejournal.com 2011-05-25 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think people ever do anything for purely one motive.

[identity profile] trapdoor-spider.livejournal.com 2011-05-25 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
Very rarely it seems.
